The history of handhelds is marked by brilliant ideas and brutal failures. A hard fought evolution spawned many devices, and the iP has benefitted from each and every one. The iP answers almost every single complaint, missing feature and shortcoming of almost every device ever made.
We owe great gratitude to all the early devices and the pioneers who made them. The present glory of the iP OS is only fully appreciated by looking backwards, which I will do here.
I will also bask in the yummy goodness of the iP and cover the details that represent its breakthrough in possibly mind numbing detail.
I'll start with the Psion I handheld computer released in 1984 (!). It featured an 8 bit Hitachi 6301 processor, glorious 1 line LCD screen and 6K of memory. It is claimed to be the first handheld computer, it too was a breakthrough.
Stay tuned!
